Blue Pigment
Janthinobacterium lividum
is a
purple-pigmented
rod-shaped Gram-negative bacterium of the phylum Proteobacteria, family Oxalobacteraceae. It is commonly isolated from the microbiota of forest soils, Antarctic glaciers, and lake and river water. This
soil-dwelling bacteria
often present's a
dark-violet color
which is due to the presence of a
compound called violacein.
Violacein is a
naturally-occurring
bis-indole pigment with antibiotic (anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-tumor) properties. Violacein occurs in several species of bacteria and accounts for their striking purple hues.
Bisindole violacein
is formed by the condensation of two tryptophan molecules through the
action of five proteins.
These bacteria produce shades and colours between
blue to purple
. from dark blues to deep purple, violet, indigo, blue-violet, bright lilac, Rebbeca, royal purple, lavender, amethyst, slate-blue are just a few shades to name. One of the tones produces is
"Very Peri"
which is announced the
colour of the year for 2022 by Pantone.
"Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a
spritely
, joyous attitude and
dynamic
presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression."
